What is E-mail Client:
We already read above that what is e-mail/e-mail use/e-mail provider now we need to know what is e-mail server and what is email client.
if we read the above first paragraph carefully then we all know what is e-mail server. " E-mail server means from where we are accessing our e-mail and where all database is stored or A particular system/computer which stores all database related to e-mail and provide e-mail access to other computer is known as e-mail Server".
If we are accessing e-mail through Web Browser(Internet Explorer/ Google chrome / Firefox ) then it's called webmail.
If we use any software or program which stores all e-mail and provide access to e-mail and we can send and recieve e-mail with that program that is knows as E-mail client.
Why Use E-mail client:
There are various reason for using e-mail client. Some reason of using e-mail clients are given below.
1. We can store all our e-mail offline with the help of e-mail client so that if ever our Internet connection is not working still we will be able to see previous e-mails.
2. As we all have many e-mail provider's e-mail so we need to go to diffrent-2 websites to access our e-mail while we can configure diffrent-2 providers e-mail in one e-mail client and can access all e-mails in a single place.
3. It can be that your e-mail provider website can be down any time then you will be able to see your e-mails in e-mail clients.
4. We can make a back up of all our e-mails.
Popular free E-mail Clients are:
1. Mozilla Thunderbird mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/
2. Windows Live mail Live mail Download
3. Opera Opera.com/computer/mail
4. Incredimail incredimail.com/english/download/
5. Foxmail foxmail.com.cn/win/en/
While Microsoft Outlook is paid e-mail client . We can purchase it from Microsoft.
Mozilla Thunderbird is very easy and Open source e-mail client . We can download it from above link. It is very easy to configure your e-mail in Thunderbird. We just need to type our name , e-mail address and password then click on next it takes all settings automatically.
There are three protocols which are used to configure e-mail clients.
1. POP ( Post Office Protocol)
2. IMAP ( Internet Message access protocol)
3. SMTP ( Simple mail transfer protocol)
"POP/IMAP is used to recieve e-mails while SMTP is used to send e-mails".
POP
POP : This is a protocol which is used to retrieve message from e-mail servers. "POP is one way communication" it means that POP can download message from server to your e-mail clients but if you delete any e-mails from your e-mail client it will not affect the server.
POP deletes all e-mails after downloading them in e-mail clients while there is one option in e-mail clients setting that if you want you can leave a copy of message on server.
POP Disadvantage
If you will create any folder or will delete any e-mail it will not replicate on other devices in which you are using same e-mail in e-mail clients.
IMAP
IMAP is also used to receive e-mail from e-mail server . IMAP is two way communication. It means if we will delete or add any thing it will replicate in all devices.
